Online EMDR and Trauma Therapy in Virginia
Jess Stern, LPC, EMDRIA-certified EMDR therapist. Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia (0701014707).
Maybe you're high-functioning on the outside and exhausted underneath. Maybe the same patterns keep showing up in your relationships, no matter how much insight you have. I work with adults across Virginia to resolve trauma at the root, using EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), all by secure video.
Where in Virginia do you see clients?
Anywhere in the state. Many clients are in Northern Virginia, like Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, and Loudoun, but I also work with people in Richmond, Charlottesville, Hampton Roads, and rural areas where trauma specialists are hard to find. All you need is a private space and a reliable connection.
What can trauma therapy help with?
Childhood and family-of-origin trauma
Complex PTSD and dissociation
Anxiety and panic that feel out of proportion to the present
Relationship patterns that keep repeating
LGBTQ+ experiences, including religious or family rejection
Trauma layered with ADHD
How is this different from talk therapy?
Talk therapy helps you understand what happened. EMDR helps your brain and body finish processing it, so the memory stops feeling like it's happening now. I pair it with IFS to work gently with the parts of you that learned to protect you. We start with stabilization and move into processing only when you're ready.
Do you take insurance in Virginia?
Through Headway, I'm in-network with Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, and Providence for Virginia residents, but my in-network spots are full and my insurance waitlist is currently closed. Self-pay sessions start at $199 for 45 minutes and are open now, and I provide monthly superbills if your plan has out-of-network benefits.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do sessions from my car or office?
A private, parked car works in a pinch. What matters is that you're somewhere you can speak freely and aren't driving.
Do you offer ketamine-assisted therapy in Virginia?
I provide the preparation and integration therapy for KAP and can help you find a prescriber. I don't prescribe or attend dosing sessions.
How soon can I start?
Self-pay openings are available now. Insurance clients join a waitlist.
