Online EMDR and Trauma Therapy in Maryland

Jess Stern, LPC, EMDRIA-certified EMDR therapist. Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland (LC16461).

You've done the talking. You understand where it comes from. Your body still reacts like it's happening now. I help adults across Maryland get to the root of trauma with EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), fully online, so you don't have to fight Beltway traffic to get to a session.

Who do I work with in Maryland?

I see adults anywhere in the state, from Montgomery and Prince George's counties to Baltimore, Annapolis, and beyond. The people I work with most often are dealing with:

  • Complex or childhood trauma, and the relationship patterns that came with it

  • Dissociation and feeling disconnected from yourself

  • LGBTQ+ identity and family-of-origin wounds

  • ADHD alongside trauma

  • Depression or PTSD that hasn't moved with talk therapy alone

What does online trauma therapy look like?

Sessions are usually 45 minutes over secure video, weekly to start. We begin by building stability and grounding. When you're ready, we use EMDR to process what's still stuck. I use IFS to work with the protective parts of you that have been holding things together. For some clients, I also offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) as part of a fuller plan.

Do you take insurance in Maryland?

Through Headway I'm in-network with Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, and Providence for Maryland residents, but my in-network caseload is full and my insurance waitlist is currently closed. Self-pay spots are open now, starting at $199 per 45-minute session, and I provide monthly superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to be in Maryland during sessions?

Yes, or another state I am licensed in. Licensing rules are based on where you are physically located during the session, so you'll need to be in Maryland, DC, Virginia, or Pennsylvania.

Is online EMDR as effective as in-person?

Research so far suggests online EMDR works comparably to in-person for many people. I use a dedicated online EMDR platform for the bilateral stimulation.

What if I'm not sure my experience "counts" as trauma?

You don't need a big event to benefit. If something from the past keeps shaping how you feel now, that's enough to start.
